Joint Base Lewis-McChord (JBLM) is the largest Army installation in the western United States, and it is the third largest employer in the entire State of Washington.

Its presence is recognized throughout Pierce and Thurston counties and Washington State as a significant economic benefit to the South Puget Sound region. In turn, communities surrounding JBLM enhance the quality of life for military personnel and families by providing high quality neighborhoods, schools, recreation opportunities, and other services.

In order to effectively support the military presence in our communities, the JBLM Growth Coordination Plan was completed in 2010. This plan identified underlying needs and subsequent strategies to support the significant rate of military population growth and economic expansion that have been realized in the area. The South Sound Military and Communities Partnership (The Partnership) consists of local and regional public agencies and was formed to implement the plan’s recommendations.

Information regarding the plan itself can be found under the Final Plan tab on our website, and updated information regarding The Partnership’s activities can be found under News.
